At the end of 16 hours of testing over two days the World Endurance Championship Prologue for Season 8 has wrapped up with Toyota Gazoo Racing’s final evolution of their TS050 showing its colours and dominating all four of the sessions.
Jose Maria Lopez took the #7 TS050 to the fastest time of the whole Prologue setting a 1:29.141 on lap 18 of the final session. Kaz Nakajima followed close on Pechito’s heels 0.046s behind in the #8 car.
Of the non-Hybrid cars, Gustavo Menezes took the #1 Rebellion R13 to third spot however, the shock of the afternoon was Luca Ghiotto taking the #6 Team LNT Ginetta G60-LT-P1-AER to a highly competitive 1:29.697 lap to finish 4th in the session. Menezes and Ghiotto’s times giving them third and sixth fastest times overall for the entire four sessions of the Prologue.
Only five of the LMP2 cars took to the track in the afternoon session. Of those, Racing Team Nederland with their #29 Oreca now shod on Michelin rubber for the season, set the fastest time of the entire Prologue when Nyck De Vries set a 1:31.659 on lap 77.
United Autosports were second in their new Oreca 07 followed by Signatech Alpine ELF. Another WEC debutant, High Class Racing, was fourth with the Cetilar Racing Dallara P217 again at the bottom of the timing sheets.
With the Spa 24hr race this weekend and the preparations and parade happening Weds evening many of the GTE Pro/Am drivers were ‘double booked’ and had to leave Spain early and head to Belgium. Owing to this, none of the GTE Pro cars ran in the final session.
In GTE Am only three cars took to the track. The #88 Porsche 911 RSR 991 of Dempsey – Proton Racing finished at the top of the times, the #86 Gulf Racing Porsche ran only 4 laps and finished +0.803s behind the #88 with the #54 AF Corse Ferrari rounding out the runners for the session.
