MLMC: RLR M Sport Take First Win of 2021 Cup

With a Full Course Yellow in place and the green flag coming out just 4m35s from the end of the race it looked like the #71 Team Virage Ligier JS P320 of Rob Hodes (USA) and Garett Grist (CAN) would take the flag for the first round of 2021’s Le Mans Cup and claim a maiden ‘home’ win (despite the team wearing the Polish flag and their driver’s both hailing from the North American continent, the team is based in Valencia, a little further south from the Barcelona track). However Tommy Foster at the wheel of the #15 RLR M Sport car he shares with Michael Benham took the lead at the restart after the FCY to deny Grist and Virage that prize.

Garett Grist bought the #71 Virage car home 1.3s behind and Scott Andrews rounded out the top three in the #22 United Autosports car a further 4.7s behind.

The #37 Cool Racing pole position car finished exactly mid-table in 12th position.

In the GT3 class, the #2 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Nicolas Leutwiler and Julien Andlauer finished at the top of the heap. The pole sitting #8 Ferrari 488 GT3 of Rino Mastronardi and Paolo Ruberti came in second just over 11s adrift and the top three was rounded out by the #51 AF Corse Ferrari of Kenji Abe and Matteo Cressoni.

The #8 Iron Dames Ferrari did not start.
