Factory Corvette driver and all-round nice chap Oliver Gavin has called time on his professional race career and will hang up his race suit after this weekend’s Total 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps.

The Corvette factory driver steps down after a 25 year career which has seen him take five American Le Mans Series class championships, five 24 Hours of Le Mans class wins, five 12 Hours of Sebring class wins and five Petit Le Mans class wins – no small feat!

“Today I announce that this weekend’s race – my 204th for Corvette Racing will be the last of my professional racing career,” said the enigmatic Englishman at Spa, where he is partnered with Antonio Garcia for the 2021 FIA WEC opener this Saturday.

“It has been an immense privilege and honour to have worked with GM and Corvette Racing for the past 20 years, and with 4 generations of Corvette, we have shared an incredible amount of success together.

“As a factory driver I immediately felt part of the Corvette family. It has been amazing to spend time amongst the most passionate race fans you could imagine, and feel their presence and support in North America, Europe & around the world. I thank every one of them for all their support and loyalty to me and the brand.”

On his Facebook page Gavin, in his usual generous way, made sure to credit the support from his family that enebled him to reach the successful heights he has: “The belief my parents had in me and the unbelievable support they provided, enabled me to pursue a career in motorsport, for which I will always be grateful. When I made my first journey across the pond to race in America my wife was expecting our first child. I could not have fulfilled my role as a Corvette driver without the unfailing love and support of my wife Helen, and our children Lily, Isaac & Fergus. Helen is my rock.”

However, it’s not a goodbye to racing overall and Gaving will, in partnershio with Corvette, launch the Oliver Gavin Driving Academy based in Boxberg, Germany where he has 12 European-spec Corvette Stingrays on order. “Chevrolet, Corvette and I have shared an incredible amount of success together and I’m delighted our relationship will continue through our work together at the Oliver Gavin Driving Academy.

“There’s more to come on this over the next few months as we get ready for our launch in October.”

Everyone here a SCG wishes Oliver the utmost success with the new venture!
