Nyck De Vries stormed to pole for Sunday’s European Le Mans Series third round at Circuit Paul Ricard following a last lap battle for the top qualifying position.
The Dutchman claimed his second pole of the season in the #26 G-Drive Racing Aurus 01 Gibson, clocking in a 1:42.166 lap time on the last lap to edge out Louis Deletraz in the championship-leading #41 Team WRT Oreca 07 Gibson by 0.157 seconds.
United Autosports’ Phil Hanson had held provisional pole prior to a red flag as Nicolas Lapierre stopped his #37 Cool Racing Oreca on track, the young Englishman eventually finishing third overall ahead of Lapierre. Lapierre and Cool Racing were reported to the stewards for causing the red flag and we await the outcome. However, the Frenchman’s fourth place time was good enough to secure LMP2 Pro-Am class pole honors.
