Andy Priaulx is set join Sir Chris Hoy in the #19 Multimatic Ford Mustang GT4 at the Spa round of the British GT this weekend, setting up a clash with his son Seb in the sister car.
Seb Priaulx and Scott Maxwell are leading the GT4 driver’s championship and they will be fighting as hard as ever to stay on top of the competition.
In the #19 Multimatic Mustang, Sir Chris Hoy returns to the team after making a strong debut at Donington Park last month. He is joined by Andy Priaulx, Ford GT WEC star, triple World Touring Car Champion and, of course, Seb’s dad.
Andy Priaulx said, “It’s going to be really nice to race in the same team as Seb. It’ll be strange to have to race against him and I’m not sure who will come out on top.
In a glance to his son the Guernseyman asked, “What do you think, mate?”
“Well, I’ve done a lot in the car and you’ve done a lot at the track.” Seb replied.
Andy continued: “Seb hasn’t been to Spa before and I’m conscious that he’s leading the championship with Scott (Maxwell) so I want to make sure I can contribute to that but I’m not going to make it easy either. I’m going to give it a good go. I don’t want to go there and be slow; I don’t want to be slower than you mate.”
and the banter between them continued …
SP: “It’ll be good. I just think it’ll be cool to race together. Against each other but in the same team.”
AP: “At least I’ll be able to benchmark myself against you.”
SP: “So you can see where I’m at?”
AP: “I think I know where you’re at! I’m really looking forward to it. There’s no pressure on me; it’s all on Seb as he needs to keep scoring points and keep leading the championship. I just can’t imagine what it’s going to be like if we head into Eau Rouge side-by-side!”
SP: “It’s going to be a tough race as always but I can’t wait to race you.”
AP: “It could be a quiet journey home on Sunday night…”
Although this is Seb Priaulx’s first time at Spa, Andy has raced there many times. During the WEC Super Season of 2018-19 there were two races at Spa and Andy took pole position both times along with his Ford GT team-mate Harry Tincknell.
