Webb moves to LMP1
Oliver Webb will step up from LMP2 to the LMP1 class in this year’s World Endurance Championship taking the final seat with ByKOLLES in their CLM P1/01 AER.
Webb is a proven performer having won the European Le Mans Series in 2014 and last year he claimed victory in the Dubai 24 Hour Race and contested the LMP2 category of the WEC. At the start of this year he secured the teams’ title in the Asian Le Mans Series with the team Race Performance.
“I’m delighted to be joining ByKolles for the 2016 FIA WEC season.” said Webb. “A great calendar and step in my career into LMP1 with faster, more advanced machinery.
“After some good conversations with the team and the direction the car is going in I’m very excited to be involved in this project for 2016. It’s a big step forward and I’m looking forward to the challenge and joining my new team mates Simon Trummer and Pierre Kaffer”
Manor announce Rao for LMP2
British driver Matt Rao, a member of the All Road Academy, will join Manor WEC in one of their Orecas for a full-season LMP2 campaign.
The 21-year-old started his racing career at karting level in 2009, and then rose through the ranks to race in Formula 3 finishing as runner-up in the 2014 British Formula 3 Championship. He took part in the WEC’s Rookie Test held in Bahrain last year where he impressed during his first taste of LMP2 machinery.
“Manor has a history of working with some great young drivers and we are delighted to welcome another talented youngster to the team” said Team Principal John Booth. “We are now looking forward to going racing with him in 2016 and seeing what results we can achieve together.”
Rao will take to the stage in the Manor LMP2 for the first time at this month’s official tests, The Prologue at Paul Ricard in southern France.
Piquet Jr. announces Le Mans drive
Nelson Piquet Jr will join forces with Nicolas Prost and Nick Heidfeld at the wheel of the #12 Rebellion R-One LMP1 AER powered LMP1 in the French classic in June.
The Brazilian will also race at the opening two rounds of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship; the 6 Hours of Silverstone and the 6 Hours of Spa ensuring he gets sufficient seat-time prior to the blue riband June race.
Piquet Jr will drive the Rebellion for the first time at the FIA WEC Prologue at the Paul Ricard circuit on March 25-26.
