Contrary to the forecasted weather, the skies cleared to blue and the sun shone down here at Monza as the #21 Dragonspeed Oreca of Henrik Hedman, Nicolas Lapierre and Ben Hanley topped the timing sheets of the second free practice session.
Nicolas Lapierre took the Dunlop shod prototype to a fastest lap time of 1:37.258, 0.378s ahead of the #39 GRAFF Racing Oreca of Eric Trouillet, Paul Petit and Enzo Guibbert. United Autosports rounded out the top three LMP2 positions with their Ligier JS-P2 clocking in a 1:37.865.
In LMP3, the #18 M.RACING – YMR Ligier JS-P3 of French trio Alexandre Cougnaud, Antoine Jung and Romano Ricci set the pace locking in a 1:46.527. Just 0.16s shy of them was yesterday’s FP1 leader, the #11 Eurointernational car of Italian duo Giorgio Mondini and Davide Uboldi whose fastest lap was a 1:46.685. Claiming the session’s third step was the Oregon Team’s multi-coloured Norma M 30 setting a 1:46.864 in the hands of Davide Roda, Andres Mendez and Dario Capitanio.
Larbre Competition topped the morning session for the LM GTE class with their Chevrolet Corvette C7-Z06 setting a respectable 1:49.164. T-Sport’s Aston Martin Vantage V8 had a better session this morning claiming the second fastest time, 0.09s behind the ‘vette. The #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari 488 GTE of Matt Griffin, Duncan Cameron and Aaron Scott closed out the top three class positions firing off a 1:50.031.
Jody Fannin (#66 JMW Ferrari 458 GTE) and Frits van Eerd (#29 Racing Team Nederland) were summoned for a chat with Eduardo Freitas at the end of the session following an on-track incident.
