With a blistering last lap, Filipe Albuquerque took overall pole and fastest LMP2 time from G-Drive’s Nyck de Vries for tomorrow’s first European Le Mans Series race of 2020 here at France’s Circuit Paul Ricard. Albuquerque set a final lap best of 1:38.268 in his Oreca 07, pipping de Vries by 0.237s. Third on the grid tomorrow will be the #32 UAS Oreca in which Alex Brundle managed a best of 1:38.736. In a close run LMP3 class, Wayne Boyd in the #2 United Autosports Ligier JS P320 took pole position with a time of 1:48.315. Although he battled hard, Laurents Hörr could not quite squeeze enough from his DKR Engineering Duqueine M30 – D08 and had to settle for second spot. Closing out the top three in class was Malthe Jakobsen in the #15 RLR MSport Duqueine setting a 1:48.457. Yellow flags were shown 1m30 from the end of the session when Andrea Fontana in the #16 BHK Motorsport car stopped at the end of pit straight, however the car was quickly moved to safety and the session continued. Photo © John D Stevens..In the GTE qualifying Aston Martin looked to have the pole position sewn up after leading for almost the entire session. Ross Gunn brought the Vantage AMR into the pits 1m30s before the end, confident of a pole only to see Nicola Cadei steal it from them on the last lap, the Italian putting in a stunning 1:51.729, 0.016s ahead of Gunn’s time. Third spot went to Matt Griffin in the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari with a 1:51.780. Full times are below:
