No 22 G-Drive Racing, Oreca 07, LMP2, Memo Rojas, Nicolas Minassian, Léo Roussel, ELMS Red Bull Ring 2017

DragonSpeed swept the front for Sunday’s 4 Hours of the Red Bull Ring with Leo Roussel setting a stunning time of 1:18.435 to take the top spot honours in his DragonSpeed run #22 G-DRIVE ORECA. 

In the top LMP2 category, overall second spot went to the sister #21 DragonSpeed ORECA with a time of 1:18.440 set by Nico Lapierre. The Frenchman’s fastest time was actually 0.005 seconds faster than Roussel’s, however, this and other times were deleted due to track limits abuses. The top three was closed out by Filipe Albuquerque who, with a 1:18.834 eased his Ligier JS P217 Gibson ahead of Nathanael Berthon in the #23 Panis Barthez Competition Ligier JS P217. The fastest Dallara P217 Gibson was the SMP Racing car of Egor Orudzhev who, in his first weekend driving an LMP2 car, claimed fifth spot on the grid. 

No 7 Duqueine Engineering Norma M30 – Nissan, LMP3, Antonin Borga, David Droux, Nicolas Schatz, ELMS Red Bull Ring 2017

In LMP3 the qualifying battle raged fierce as usual with the session red-flagged for several minutes as Ross Kaiser’s 360 Racing Ligier lost its wheel and had to be retrieved. David Droux eventually took the honours of class pole for Duqueine Engineering. His time of 1:25.657 in the Norma M30 was the first pole for the French chassis manufacturer with the LMP3 car and just 0.197 seconds ahead of the AT Racing Ligier JS P3 Nissan. Yann Ehrlacher in the M.Racing – YMR Norma secured third spot on the grid and added a second Norma to the top three.

No 51 Spirit of Race, Ferrari 488 GTE, LM GTE, Gianluca Roda, Giorgio Roda, Andrea Bertolini, ELMS Red Bull Ring 2017

The GTE class, as usual, provided us with a few edge-of-the-seat moments with Andrea Bertolini topping the sheets for Spirit of Race with a 1:28.297 set on his third flying lap, under two-tenths of a second ahead of Matt Griffin in the sister Ferrari 488 GTE. Third spot for Sunday’s race went to the Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR with Matteo Cairoli just pipping Johnny Cocker in the JMW Motorsport Ferrari 488 GTE to the spot.
