United Autosports have opened their Red Bull Ring account in the best way possible by topping the timesheet’s in today’s Free Practice 1.
The team ran 43 laps with Phil Hanson setting a 1:22.051 on lap seven to take the session’s fastest time in the #22 Oreca 07 – Gibson.
Flying Dutchman Nyck de Vries was hot on Hanson’s tail, a mere five hundredths of a second behind in the #26 G-Drive Racing Oreca whilst third sport in LMP2 (and fastest in the Pro/Am sub-category), went to Ben Hanley in the #21 DragonSpeed USA Oreca he shares with Henrik Hedman and, for this weekend only, Gustavo Menezes.
In LMP3, DKR Engineering’s Laurents Horr was the man to watch, topping the class times with a 1:25.510 in the Duqueine M30 – D08 – Nissan. Half a second behind him was Wayne Boyd in the #2 United Autosports Ligier JS P320 – Nissan whilst Boyd’s team mate Duncan Tappy, in the sister #3 car was a further half a second adrift in third spot.
It was a Ferrari-fest in the GTE class with the top five places all falling to the Italian marque. The session’s GTE honours went to AF Corse with Alessio Rovera setting the fastest time of 1:28.520 in the #88 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo. Next up was Giorgio Sernagiotto in the #60 Iron Lynx car who clocked in a time of 1:28.705 with Miguel Molina in the sister #80 car taking third spot.
The fastest non-Ferrari was TF Sport’s #95 Aston Martin Vantage AMR in fifth place while the fastest Porsche was the #77 Proton Competition finishing the session in seventh place.
Tomorrow’s 90 minute Free Practice 2 session starts at 10h00 CET with qualifying from 14h50 CET.
