United Autosports has today confirmed that Baby Brundle has returned to the team and will join Ryan Cullen, who moves to UA from APR Rebellion, in one of the team’s Ligier JS P217 LMP2 chassis. Assuming UA are granted an entry, the pair will also race at Le Mans with the team this year.
Alex Brundle first raced with the Anglo-American team during its ELMS debut year, 2016, winning the LMP3 title alongside Christian England and Mike Guasch (both of whom have also returned to UA for 2019).
Whilst 2019 Rolex 24 LMP2 champion Ryan Cullen is new to the Anglo American team he has previously tested a Ligier JS P217. As well as experience in the European Le Mans Series Cullen has raced in the Porsche Supercup and the GP3 Series.
“I’m very excited and motivated to be racing with United Autosports in LMP2 for 2019, re-joining the team who took me to the championship title in LMP3.” said Brundle. “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a Ligier once more, representing a world-class outfit and my longstanding sponsors and friends at Richard Mille.”
Team boss Richard Dean added: “Alex is no stranger to the team and it is good to welcome him back for the 2019 season. He is a previous champion of ours so hopefully he can replicate his season in 2016 once again. Ryan has impressed us in the four days testing he has done with us so far so I am hopeful of good things from him throughout the season. I think him and Alex will make a good line up with their third as yet undecided team mate.”
