Alpine’s André Negãro finally put a Hypercar at the top of the timing sheets today when set the pace in the RebAlpine in this morning’s Free Practice 2 at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the Portuguese driver setting a 2:03.396. His time, set on the 12th lap, put him just 0.035s aheady of Toyota’s Brendon Hartley in the #8 GR010 HYBRID.
United Autosports were again the fastest of the LMP2 teams with Filipe Alburquerque again at the wheel of the #22 Oreca 07 to set a 2:03.733 on his 7th lap, fast enough to put him third overall in the session.
Nyck De Vries finished fourth in the #26 G-Drive Racing Oreca, followed by Alex Brundle in the #34 Inter Europol Competition and Roberto Merhi in the sister #25 G-Drive car made it four LMP2s to finish ahead of the #7 Toyota GR010 HYBRID in which Jose Maria Lopez could only manage a 2:04.717 for seventh spot.
In LMGTE Pro James Calado topped the times in the #51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo with a respectable 2:13.552 set on lap 6. Second was Gianmaria Bruni in the #91 Porsche 911 RSR – 19 and the top three was closed out by Daniel Serra in the #52 AF Corse Ferrari.
Porsche once again topped LMGTE AM but didn’t have it all their own way this time. The ultra-competitive class was topped by the #77 Dempsey – Proton Racing Porsche in which Kiwi Jaxon Evans set the 2:14.170 benchmark. The silver #54 AF Corse VistaJet Ferrari was next with Giancarlo Fisichella dialling in a 2:14.222 half way through the session. Matteo Cressoni took his #60 Iron Lynx Ferrari to third in category setting a 2:14.419 on his penultimate lap. The first of the Aston Martins to finish was the #777 D’Station Racing car in 6th.
Qualifying kicks off at 18h20 local with the race on Saturday from 13h30 local (CEST).
