As dusk descends on the Bahrain International Circuit, the first free practice session of the final round of this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship comes to a close with the #2 Porsche of Roman Dumas setting the time to beat, clocking in a fastest lap of 1:42.107.
Dumas was followed by the two Audi R18s of Lucas DiGrassi (1:42.450) and Marcel Fassler (1:42515), putting to bed any thoughts that Audi would let off the gas and coast into the history books. The first Toyota Hybrid back was the #6 of Mike Conway setting the fourth fastest time followed by Mark Webber in the #1 Porsche 919.
In LMP2, the already-crowned-champions Signatech Alpine set the fastest time of the session with a 1:50.906 by Menezes. Julian Canal in the #45 Manor took second while Roman Russinov rounded out the top three in the #26 G-Drive Oreca 05.
Moving to the GTE classes, Aston Martin’s super-sub Jonny Adam took the #97 to the top of the pile in the Pro class with the sister #95 car of Marco Sorensen hot on his heels. Christensen’s #77 Porsche rounded out the top three for the session.
In GTE Am, the #83 Ferrari lead the way with a respectable 2:00.550 with Matthius Lauda in the Aston Martin Racing Vantage V8 was just two thousandth’s of a second behind and the final spot was filled by Pierre Ragues with the Corvette.
