No 71 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE, LMGTE Pro, Davide Rigon, Sam Bird, WEC Spa Francorchamps, 2017

Davide Rigon and Sam Bird put in a stunning performance to top the GTE qualifying and take class pole for Saturday’s FIA WEC 6h of Spa Francorchamps. 

The Italian/British pairing took took their #71 Ferrari 488 GTE to an average lap time of 2.15.017 over the iconic 7km Belgian track, 0.4s ahead of the #66 Ford GT of Olivier Pla and Stefan Mücke. Despite setting a faster lap then the #66 car the sister #67 car of Tincknell and Priaulx closed out the GTE Pro top three with an average time of 2.15.565. It was a lacklustre performance from both Aston Martins closing out the session in the bottom two places. 

In the Am category Aston Martin Racing took the pole thanks to a stunning last lap by Perdo Lamy. The Portuguese driver pulled it out of the bag as the chequered flag dropped with an average time of 2.18.659, stealing the top spot from the #77 Porsche 911 RSR of Reid and Cairoli which had looked set for the class pole. The #54 Spirit of Race Ferrari 488 GTE closed out the class top three with a 2.19.648 average lap.
