Hollywood action legend Jackie Chan’s LMP2 squad Jackie Chan DC Racing has confirmed today the final two drivers for their 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship program, with ex-Audi LMP1 factory driver Oliver Jarvis and Alex Brundle leading the two-car attack.
After nine seasons with Audi, British ace Jarvis recently signed to the German marque’s sister Bentley GT3 team following Audi’s withdrawal from the WEC last year, and will combine this with his WE duties joining Ho-Pin Tung and Thomas Laurent at the wheel of the #38 Oreca 07 Gibson.
Fellow Briton and Jota/G-Drive 2016 regular race-winner Brundle will share the #27 entry alongside Frenchman Tristan Gommendy and team owner/driver David Cheng.
“I’m so pleased to be able to join such a strong team as Jackie Chan DC Racing,” Jarvis said. “It will be nice to return to my WEC family and challenge for wins with Ho-Pin and Thomas.”
Previously, Cheng and Tung had been the only confirmed drivers in the Jota Sport-run operation, which steps up to a two-car effort under DC’s backing.
“After a hat trick of wins to conclude last season my objective this winter was to return for a full WEC campaign to build on that success,” Brundle said.
“To be able to do that with a hugely professional and dedicated group that I know well is fantastic.”
Frenchmen Gommendy and Laurent both step up to full-time WEC drives from European Le Mans Series campaigns in 2016. Experienced LMP2 racer Gommendy moves over from Eurasia Motorsport while 18-year-old Laurent steps up to a full-time LMP2 role following a season in LMP3 with Yvan Muller Racing.
The Chinese squad made its WEC debut with a single-car effort as a part of the Signatech-Alpine garage last year, however, the Chinese squad has set higher expectations for the upcoming season.
“Coming off a years’ worth of experience in the FIA WEC last season, we are really happy to be back this year with two full season cars,” Team Owner Cheng said.
“I have to thank our co-founder Jackie Chan, Sparkle Roll group and all of our partners for putting their trust and full force behind us. This really enabled us to put together not only such a strong line up, but one with great chemistry between the drivers.
“I’m confident our Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota Sport team will be challenging up front at Le Mans and all year for the title.”
