Way beck when, in 2014 actually, a certain Mark Webber stepped out into the WEC pit lane for the first round at Silverstone and the crowds flooded in – the draw one person could bring to an already flourishing series had been experienced.
Fast forwards four years to May 2018 and we find ourselves at a beautifully sunny Spa-Francorchamps on race day and the gates to the pit lane have been thrown open to the expectant crowds – the difference? Two-times Formula 1 World Champion and current McLaren driver Fernando Alonso is here for his maiden race with Toyota in the TS050 Hybrid and the crowds are ENORMOUS – some of it due to the exceptional great weather we’re sure, but the ‘single person’ effect has again been shown and to an even greater extent …… Just imaging now what it will be like in a few weeks when fan-favourite Jensen Button joins the Grid for Le Mans with SMP Racing …….!
Until then, enjoy the photos from a beautifully sunny Spa-Francorchamps pit lane.
