What a start to a Six-hour race! Everything from the 1-2 front row to Porsche 919 Hybrids suggested a run away from the field and then stroking it home from as early as the first round of stops. But whether it is tyre wear, temperatures we are seeing a classic old-fashioned war of endurance attrition.
In summary –
- #2 Porsche from very early on hit a hybrid issue
- #1 Porsche looked solid in the lead, but a puncture following some battling between Timo Bernhard and #5 Toyota of Sebastian Buemi has led to both Porsches being 5th and 6th in numeric order currently
- #6 Toyota driven by Mike Conway stumbled over the #37 SMP BR-01 led to a new nose and additional trip to the pit lane (for a drive thru penalty) – currently 4th
The above leaves the #5 Toyota in the lead. pursued by the #8 and #7 Audi Sport Team Joest R18s respectively.
LMP2 is a battle between the #44 Manor Motorsport Oreca both the #46 G-Drive and #36 Signatech-Alpine (Orecas 1,2,3).
In GTE-Pro Ferrari #51 and #71 continue to lead the category chased frantically by #97 Aston Martin
In GTE-Am Aston Martin #98 of last year’s winning crew Dalla Lana, Lamy & Lauda lead, #83 Ferrari and #50 Larbre-Corvette C7.
