Porsche has been busy during the summer break and will be running a new aero package for the second half of the season which will begin this weekend at Germany’s Nürburgring.
After celebrating its 17th victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche is preparing to resume the race for the WEC title this weekend. While the 919 Hybrid sgtormed to success at Le Mans, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro was the car to beat in the early season with victories at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps.
Porsche has been testing the new aero package earlier this month at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona. “The preparation of the 919 Hybrid for Le Mans was always our first priority,” recalled Alexander Hitzinger, technical director of the department LMP1. “The aero package with which we started the season at Silverstone was a compromise in order to prepare for the Le Mans 24 Hours. We had always planned this upgrade offering stronger support for the later races. “
According to figures revealed by Porsche the 919 Hybrid will be able to reach 285km / h top speed even though the Nürburgring’s F1 circuit does not have long straights. However, Romain Dumas, driver of the No. 18, remains wary. “This track will not be easy for us with its many bends and shorter straights,” he warned. Dumas has also been testing his driving skills during the off season taking 26th spot last weekend at Rally Germany in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
