The Porsche WEC team arrived here at Le Castellet last night, two days before the official Prologue for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and, perhaps in case they were worried of spy-shots of the new car leaking during setup the reigning World Endurance Champions released the livery of its 2016 919 Hybrid LMP1 contender, ahead of the official presentation of the new car here on Thursday.
The Stutgart manufacturer has fully exploited the WEC regulations by developing three different aerodynamic packages to make the car best suit to the respective race tracks.
Additionally, the weight of the cars four-cylinder turbo engine has been reduced and, in line with the 2016 requirements, fuel consumption has also been reduced.
The two energy recovery systems which form the hybrid drive have been improved for greater efficiency and deliver more power via an optimised electric motor driving the front axle powered by a new generation of in-house developed lithium-ion battery cells.
The car will take to the track for it’s first public outing on Friday’s WEC Prologue session with the driving teams remaining unchanged; Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard will carry the #1 number plate for the first time, in defense of their World Championship with the #2 sister car in the hands of Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb.
