Loic Duval topped free practice 1 on Sunday morning by 0.3 seconds from yesterday’s race winner Sebastien Buemi. 

Despite setting the fastest time Duval ended the session stuck out on track after suffering a suspension failure with 5 minutes left in the session.

The incident will be a worry for Jay Penske’s Dragon outfit after Jerome D’Ambosio suffered a similar fate yesterday.

Behind Duval the two e-Dams Renault cars of Buemi and Nico Prost were split by Virgin’s Sam Bird.

Along with Alex Fontana, who finished the session in fifth, the top four went against the grain and all attempted qualifying simulations in the first free practice session.

Brazilian Lucas di Grassi was the quickest driver who didn’t attempt a qualifying simulation, the championship outsider set a 1:26.881.

The man di Grassi is chasing in the championship Nelson Piquet Jr had a quiet session, only able to set the ninth fastest time.

Many drivers struggled to find a rhythm on Sunday morning with multiple yell0w flags and two red flags.

The first red flag was brought out by Oliver Turvey, the Nextev TCR driver stooping out on track at turn 8.

The second red flag was brought out by Simona de Silvestro, the Swiss driver locked her brakes into the final corner and ran straight into the tech-pro barrier.

It topped off a bad session for Andretti, after Jean-Eric Vergne was unable to run. The Frenchman had a health scare last nigh and was still being checked over by the medical staff at the track this morning.
