Robin Frijns will return to single-seater action this year, the Dutch driver completing the Amlin Andretti second season line-up.

The 24 year-old, who currently leads the Blancpain Sprint Series, returned to a single-seater this summer when he drove for Amlin Aguri during the official Formula e last test.

Frijns, who will debut in Beijing on October 24 is excited to be joining a new series and team, “It is an honour to be part of the Andretti family and to drive for them in Formula E,” said the Dutchman.

“It’s a new championship and a completely new challenge for me. The way of driving and saving energy is going to be tough but fun and I am really looking forward to the first race in Beijing in a few weeks.”

Before switching to sportscars at the start of 2015, Frijns had success at a number of single-seater levels including Formula BMW Europe, Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, GP2 as well as becoming Renault 3.5 Champion in 2012.

Michael Andretti believes the addition of Frijns puts his Andretti squad in a strong position for season two, “We’re very excited to have Robin join the team.” said Andretti.

“He’s only done one test for us, but he did a really good job and he has a great attitude. We feel that with him and Simona (de Silvestro), we have a strong team put together and are ready for season two.”

Frijns, and team mate, Simona de Silvestro will race with the season-one powertrain after a difficult pre-season lead to the Andretti squad drop their season-two package.
