Triple Eight Racing will expand to a three car effort from 2016, with the signing of 2014 runner-up Shane van Gisbergen.

Van Gisbergen joins on a three year deal from Tekno Autosports, to create one of the most exciting driver line-ups V8 Supercars has ever seen.

Alongside the Kiwi will be 6 time champion Jamie Whincup and five times runner up (’05, ’06, ’11, ’12, ’13) Craig Lowndes.

Between the three drivers they have 1,132 race starts, six drivers titles, 196 wins and 108 pole positions.

Lowndes position with Triple Eight had been in doubt after a difficult 2014, but the 40 year-old has secured a new two year deal with the team tacking him through to end of 2017.

Triple Eight Managing Director Roland Dane believes that the new signing of Shane van Gisbergen  alongside his current drivers are the perfect formula for the 2016 season.

He said, “Given the growing trend of larger teams and the intense competition that this brings, we felt that this is the ideal time to add another entry to our championship campaign to enhance the competitive depth of the team,”

“With Jamie, Craig and now Shane at the wheels of the Triple Eight Holdens, we will be fielding the strongest line-up in one of the world’s most closely fought categories, but for now we are focussing on the 2015 championship.”

Triple Eight also announced that they will continue their championship winning partnership with Red Bull until 2017, with an option for 2018.

Since joining forces in 2013, Triple Eight and Red Bull, racing under the banner of Red Bull Racing Australia in the V8 Supercars series, have claimed two Drivers’ championships, two Teams’ titles, 34 race wins and 31 pole positions across the two year period.

Commenting on the announcement Dane said, “As a team, we have achieved some truly remarkable things together and we look forward to seeing what else can grow from this partnership over the coming years on and off the track.”
